+Esme is a lithe warrior brandishing a cudgel for skull bashing. Esme's ancestry includes Elven and Tiefling blood which comes through at times in quietness, when she's being sneaky and observing rather than bashing skulls in vengeance for her father's murder.

+Esme is in a furtive relationship with [[npcs#Krentz]], (a [[npcs#Xanathar guild]] sergeant). They are trying to keep the relationship a secret because they are cousins and he was a witness to her father's murder. They are secretly plotting to destroy those who killed my father (his uncle) but people mustn't know that we are related.
+They have suspicion that [[lakdorf]] may be the killer, but he claims innocence.
+Who actually killed him? It might have been an orc working for the zhentarim (possibly Yagra) or it may have been an internal grievance within the Xanathar organization. In either case there would be an attempt to frame the opposite.
+Esme's dad was called Brisborn Quickdeer. HIs cover was as a simple blacksmith. However, he used his shop and trade fairs to smuggle goods in and out of the country for the Xanathar. He would hiding gems, contraband, and information inside of horseshoes and armor, for instance.
+He eventually got  greedy and started putting away a little too much for himself. And, he was a heavy drinker, fighter and gambler.
+His final downfall was using considerable sums of Xanathar money to fund his gambling habit. He got sloppy and his thieving and disloyalty were discovered.
+The family was somewhat poor. Her father, Brisborn, was careful never to be "showy" in order not to blow his cover. Plus, he gambled a good portion of his income away. He was generally kind to his family, only beating his wife occasionally when he was drunk. Esme both feared and revered her father. He had been especially kind to her and had a special place in his heart for her as she reminded him of himself in many ways, in her toughness, her ambition, her love of taking chances. She felt his partiality towards her  and vowed to herself that she would do everything in her power to earn his respect.
+Esme was devastated and furious when Brisborn was killed. It was made to look like he'd been killed by robbers while riding back from a trade fair but Esme didn't beleive it for a second - something was fishy about the story, and she suspected he had been betrayed by someone in the guild, she knew. She did not know about his embezzelment but does know of his love for gambling.
+Therefore, now that she knows he worked for Xanathar, she is unsure whether his murder was some kind of conflict from within the Xanathar guild, or a personal grudge. She wants to try to get more information from Xanathar guild members.
+Eventually, she will find someone who knows that it was an officially sanctioned assassination ordered by Xanathar himself, and will see [[npcs#Xanathar]] as the ultimate target of her vengeance.
